Jenkins Reflecting on 2019

January 14, 2020

Dear Friends and Family We would like to wish you a very happy Christmas, and may 2020 be a wonderful year for you. With love and blessings from Peter and Vivian 2019 started with us looking out from Boyes Drive at the fireworks over the Cape Flats, having just fetched Jonathan, Jessie and Jessie’s sister Laurie from the airport. They had spent Christmas with the Carlson family in the States. Jessie’s Father, Eric, and brother Ethan joined them a couple of months later for a first ever African holiday. Amongst other things, they went paragliding, joined by Viv, who loved it! For Vivian, rewriting the Sunrise Readers continues to be a major focus. Pearson Africa held an in-house marketing seminar, and Viv and Chrissie Lewis were asked to make a presentation on the new edition of the books. This was followed by ongoing editing and re-writing, starting briefly in our…

2018 Jenkins’ Christmas Newsletter

December 24, 2018

Dear Family and Friends We hope you have had a wonderful 2018. Ours has been fuller than we expected, with a mix of highs and lows! We started with Vivian in and out of hospital after her heart surgery last December. Then, at the end of July, Mum fell and broke her hip. She also spent a few days in hospital getting a replacement, but has now almost fully recovered. A happier theme has been Cats and Kittens. Viv’s two Persian Chinchillas have produced 3 litters of four, three and two kittens. She managed to justify keeping one (Baymax) on the grounds that he was injured by a shelf falling on him. Actually he is very cute and much loved by the whole family. The backdrop to 2018 has been the stunning view of False Bay from our house. Our new home was built 70 years ago by Mr. Sly…

Aunty Peggy’s news

December 17, 2018

2018 has been a tough year for Mum. On July 24, she fell and broke her hip. We are SO grateful to the doctors and staff at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg for the outstanding care they gave her. After her hip replacement op, an amazing physio friend helped Mum with rehab, as did the wonderful staff at Nerina Gardens. At age 88, Mum is walking again (with a walker) and back in her own room at Nerina Gardens. This has been a set-back and Mum is definitely more frail than before the fall. She is also naturally nervous about falling again, so it has been a confidence-shaker. Thank you to all who have prayed for her. Prayers are appreciated! She has made a wonderful recovery, and we are grateful to God.

Vivian’s Books

December 11, 2018

The Sunrise Readers The Sunrise Readers were first written in the mid 1980s, and published by Longman Zimbabwe – co-authored by Vivian Jenkins and Chrissie Lewis. Approved for use in government schools in Zimbabwe, within the decade, they became the core-readers of choice in most schools in the country. In 2017, Vivian and Chrissie were asked to revise the Sunrise Readers by Pearson Education Africa. They have now been approved by the Ministry of Education in Zambia, and are being marketed to schools in Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, and – most recently – in South Africa. The Step-Up Readers in 2015, Vivian was asked to write a series of supplementary readers to go with the PEARSON EDUCATION AFRICA Step-Up English scheme, in line with the new curriculum. She wrote one reader per Grade for Grades One – Six. Readers for Grades One, Two, Three and Four are currently…
