Vivian’s Books

The Sunrise Readers

The Sunrise Readers were first written in the mid 1980s, and published by Longman Zimbabwe – co-authored by Vivian Jenkins and Chrissie Lewis. Approved for use in government schools in Zimbabwe, within the decade, they became the core-readers of choice in most schools in the country.

In 2017, Vivian and Chrissie were asked to revise the Sunrise Readers by Pearson Education Africa. They have now been approved by the Ministry of Education in Zambia, and are being used in schools in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, and – most recently – in South Africa. The Sunrise Readers are also available in Australia.

In 2022, Pearson Education Africa closed, and Vivian and Chrissie purchased their IP – the Sunrise Readers. They set up #SunriseEducationalPublishing(Pty)Ltd, rebranded Sunrise Readers Books 1 – 10, revised Books 11 and 12 (2023), developed Teacher’s and Learners’s kits for Sunrise Readers Books 1, 2 and 3 (2024), and have continued to market the Sunrise Readers into Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana.

The Step-Up Readers

in 2015, Vivian was asked to write a series of supplementary readers to go with the PEARSON EDUCATION AFRICA Step-Up English scheme, in line with the new curriculum. She wrote one reader per Grade for Grades One – Six. With the closure of Pearson, Vivian has purchased the Intellectual Property for these books and they will soon be available as class readers. With their short stories directly linking with the Zimbabwe curriculum, these books provide learners with the opportunity to read for themselves, at a skills and age-appropriate level, stories directly relevant to what they are learning in their Environmental and Social Studies. With the closure of Pearson Education Africa, these books have been unavailable. However, in late 2024, Vivian purchased the IP for these grade readers, and will revise/ rebrand them in the near future.

Faith in Action Religious Education Textbook

Many teachers and grown-up learners will fondly remember the Faith in Action Grade Seven Pupil’s Book that Vivian wrote for use in Zimbabwean schools, published by Longman Zimbabwe.

In the Hollow of His Hand

The story of Cyril and Peggy Ogden.

This is the story of how an untrained and inexperienced young couple blundered unexpectedly into the world of the supernatural when they accepted a call into the ministry. They had to rely on the Holy Spirit to teach them, step by step. Miracles of healing, provision and deliverance from demonic forces ensued. This story illustrates the truth that God can use ordinary people to do extraordinary things!
